This is to draw your attention to the long prevaling ill condition of the approach road to Dombivli from Mahape via Shilphata, kalyan Phata. I am a regular traveler on this road since past 7 years but have not seen the conditions improving much. The worst is seen during the rains when this stretch has innumerable potholes. Yes there were a few attempts made for broadening the roads but not to a great effect. The work usually starts with a dash but sooner or later stops due to unknown reasons. Also widening is being done by filling up mud and stones on both the sides. There is no proper tarring done. The consequences being more potholes and more accidents/breakdowns. The bridge over the Konkan Railway near the Lodha Heaven residency and the Desai Bridge just ahead of that are the major bottlenecks for the traffic flow. It is high time that the Civic Authorities should consider constructing parallel bridges to these existing ones to ensure smooth traffic flow. There were a few developments made with that respect. But again the work was halted for never to resume back. Traffic jams is a regular scene these days with almost two to three per week the reason being both, the bad condition of the road and Heavy Load carrying vehicular movement. A couple of years earlier the Heavy Load carrying vehicular movement was not permitted along the stretch from Kalyan Phata to Dombivli and further down to Kalyan. But now this additional heavy traffic is contributing to the already deteriorating road conditions. If the traffic authority has decided to divert this heavy traffic along this stretch, then proper infrastructure for the same should be provide. This inefficiency of the Civic Authorities is giving roller coaster rides to the regular travelers by this road along with traffic jams which average around 1.5 to 2 hours. This is a matter of shame to this city which is being already viewed as one of the shabby suburbs when it comes to the availability of basic infrastructure. It is high time now we ask for our dues. I would want the local NGOs and the people of Dombivali to take a note of this serious issue which seems to be never ending. This, I think, is a major roadblock to the development of this city. The resent developments though show that the work is now being taken up by MSRDC, it will take a while to instill faith among the people of this city. the problem is at several levels,
no wide roads, roads not constructed to bear the load of heavy container trucks and other trucks moving in the region, parking of trucks along the roads. Bad roads lead to higher accident frequency and more traffic jams. I work at Belapur and i use rail instead of road.

Some short term solutions: development of lanes and good tarring, removing number of toll nakas to reduce parking of vehicles
medium/long term: creating bypasses for Dombivli and Kalyan city to divert heavy vehicle trucks

There had been a plan which i heard of creating a road from shilphata to Kalyan, provisions of such road are made in P&amp;T colony where this road was going to pass. However, havent seen any development since last 1 year

Anyways if conditions going to remain same, it would spell bad times on commuters of Dombivli.

chill!! i guess this issue is goin to get sorted out very soon as the project to widen and maintain the shilphata is given over a pvt infrastructure company the same who has constrcuted the panvel stretch from shilphata!!
theres also goin to b a by pass to go to nh-5 via shilphata which wud mean no longer to go all along kalyan to comeonto nh-5!!
by the year end i hope the drive over the shilphata b smooth enuf!!

Hope it comes as per plans. I heard some objections from kdmc as there would be octroi revenue losses.
