Refering to the article in Dombivali Kalyan Plus Dombivli lacks connectivity to Thane and parts of Mumbai. This has been due to detour of the highway due to the creek. It takes much less time to walk from the point where highway crosses Diva-Vasai line than to drive down to Bhiwandi-Kalyan and then Dombivli! Last I had tried this was some 2 years back and took me about 30 mins. One just have to walk about a kilometer from the highway to the creek using the road through the village, then climb on the 7-bridges, cross the creek, reach reti bunder and take a rickshaw back home!!

This detour can be reduced by proposing a 4-5 kms road along the Diva-Vasai line into Dombivli West or may be some kilometers more and directly near Diva - Manpada junction. This could be seen as bypass for Kalyan city and would greatly reduce load on the Shilphata and open shorter route from Dombivli to Mumbai. However, Diva region is supposed to be economically fragile with mangroves and marshy land. Even the railway which has been built is elevated, as the region as most of the region is below water level. Plus construction of bridge on the creek would be the most costliest part of the project. Government should propose a detailed feasibility study of the project and would definitely try to find out the economical advantage this project would offer to the 0.8 million residents of Dombivli and trucks travelling from JNPT towards Nashik and other parts. |
