Page 2 of 3 Then Chief minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Morotrao Kannamwar visited Dombivli in 1963. This lead to establishment of MIDC in Dombivli for the growth of industry. For development of girls education, Radhabai Sathe Girls school was started. Music and other cultural activities started growing in Dombivli. 'Shrimant Sangeet' event started this year. During October 1966, Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Dombivli and was honoured on the grounds of Tilak nagar school. During the same period, lecture series from great Babasabheb Purandare was organised. Till the end of 1970, many milestones were reached in Social and cultural front. Growth happened very rapidly and so did the growth in problems of urbanization. Real estate boomed and Landlords in Dombivli started organizing. Economic progress happened after 1970, Dombivli Nagari Sahakari Bank was started on 6 September 1970. In 1971, Shri Raghvendra Swami Math, Karnatak Sangh, Indian Medical association, Model English School, etc were established. In 1973, Marathi Vigyan Parishad was established. Around 200 Telephone connections were done in 1975 and trunk call facility was introduced. Tilaknagar junior college was started the same year.
In 1974, a Dombivlikar touched Lok Sabha,
Mr. Jagannath Patil was elected member of Lok Sabha. People from
Dombivli took new roles, new responsibilities, new challenges. In this
year after emergency, a big gathering was held in Dombivli with famous
writer P.L. Deshpande as chariperson. Jeshtha Nagrik Sangh was
established this year. In 1977, Govindrao Talvalkar, noted journalist born and brought up in Dombivli was elected Chief editor at Maharashtra Times. 1978 saw the rise in broadcast media, Television rapidly started reaching homes of Dombivli. 1979, Pendharkar college shifted to new and current location in MIDC. Degree courses were introduced. |
